Carmeus (C.J.) Jacob and his wife, Adeline Jacob, are both immigrants from Haiti who came to the United States in the seventies and eighties respectively. As a little boy C.J. had no choice but leave home at an early age and begin working to help feed his family. If there was money left over, he did whatever he could to educate himself and send his siblings to the local schools in Haiti. C.J. never forgot how hard he had to work to achieve an education and help improve the status of his family.
In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, the real estate market started to pick up in the United States. Having obtained his real estate license years earlier, C.J. began to position himself well as a realtor in Miami. He and Adeline began reaping the great benefits of the market and it was now time to give back.
They started a school located on ìle de La Tortue (English Pronunciation: Tortuga Island), Ecole La Fondation CAJ is a school where the impoverished children can go and receive an education for very little money and in most cases, education is provided for free. Aside from an education, the students receive uniforms, books, school supplies and one meal per day, which for many of them, is the only meal they will eat the entire day.
The mission of Ecole La Fondation CAJ is to help Haitian children have an opportunity to make it off the island of ìle de La Tortue in hopes of obtaining a better life via the power of education.
